Casting Operator

Job Location: Crookston, MN

Start Date: September 16th, 2024

Compensation : $20.50 + $1.25 shift differential

Job Summary

As a Casting Operator, you will be responsible for pouring sand castings, producing sand molds, and preparing aluminum alloys according to quality specifications and work instructions. This role includes operating various machinery, performing maintenance tasks, and ensuring a safe and orderly work environment. The position may require rotating and/or weekend shifts.

Main Responsibilities

• Pouring and Molding:
  • Properly pour molten aluminum into sand molds according to work instructions.
  • Operate sand molding machines.
  • Coat and weld ladles as required.
  • Operate the sand muller machine and understand the differences in the types of sand.
• Material Preparation:
  • Load ingots, operate furnaces, and prepare molten aluminum per work instructions.
  • Know and understand how to use all elements or additives used in preparing a furnace.
  • Degas metal and perform vacuum level and spectrographic analyses of aluminum.
  • Be able to identify different alloys.
• Maintenance and Inspection:
  • Perform minor maintenance on furnaces and molding equipment.
  • Assist with or perform set-ups.
  • Collect, inspect, or transfer parts at shakeout.
  • Assist or perform first piece inspections.
• Documentation and Communication:
  • Barcode time and production quantities into the computer.
  • Maintain applicable process documentation.
  • Communicate any maintenance items and any major maintenance needs to the shift coordinator.
  • Communicate pertinent information to the oncoming shift.
• Safety and Standards:
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
  • Follow all company and department policies and safety requirements.
  • Meet or exceed production standards.
  • Know how to read and understand the schedule.

Qualifications

• Understanding of sand casting processes and aluminum alloy preparation.
• Ability to operate and maintain sand molding machines and furnaces.
• Knowledge of different types of sand and aluminum alloys.
• Basic maintenance skills for molding equipment and furnaces.
• Ability to follow work instructions and safety protocols.
• Effective communication skills for shift handovers and reporting maintenance needs.
